A knife built just for you...

Having a custom knife built just for you is a wonderful and profoundly personal experience - the fruit of which will continue to delight for a lifetime.

Getting Started

The process of constructing your knife begins usually with a conversation, ideally in person but not necessarily.

I’ll ask a million questions and if we’re in the same room, ask you to show me how you do a number of different knife-related things.

I have a huge collection of wooden templates to help gauge edge profile (how the knife moves on the cutting board) and a general sense of blade and handle shape and length. If you’re very far away, I can even send these to you. Either way, your hands almost always know what’s best for them and this part usually gets us to a particular style quite quickly.

Next Steps

Next we’ll discuss the kind of performance you’d like to experience (ex. great at splitting coconuts and lobster, or perfect for mincing chives).

Finally we’ll choose materials and aesthetic styling.

Do you prefer a mirror polished carbon steel blade with Desert Ironwood burl and Bronze accents, or satin finished stainless steel blade with a combination of Beech wood and G10 fiberglass with silver accents? Or just about anything in between (or on either side!).

Construction Time

Construction usually takes between six and eight months from when we finalize the details.

I’ll get in touch when I’m on the verge  of beginning to grind in earnest to make sure we’re still on track and at that time usually take a credit card, which I’ll only charge when the knife is complete*.

If you’re unsatisfied for any reason, you’re welcome to return the knife in original condition for a full refund or any changes that would make it right.

Each knife comes with care and honing instructions, a leather strop, and lifetime free sharpening and repair (not withstanding intentional misuse).

*In the case of very expensive exotic materials I may need to take a deposit
